A fellow podcaster and radio type, Andrea from Utah joins us to discuss:

Why growth isn’t necessarily a good thing in the economy.

We cover taking responsibility for educating your own children.

Andrea reveals the one thing she’d change about the economy if given the chance.

She also shares with us what she’d ask The Federal Reserve chairman if she could have a 20 min., one on one convo with him.

black_friday

Black Friday is once again fast approaching. Take a closer look at what you’re doing and why when you shop. Retail therapy? Consumer addiction? Patriotism? Boredom?

It’s none of those. Black Friday is Americans acting like sheep and allowing themselves to be trained by advertising & media. You’ve been led to believe that consuming is how you define yourself.

Your self image is what determines everything in your life. I am…… You fill in the blank. Whatever you fill that blank with is how you live your life. Are you a $150 pair of shoes? Are you a pair of designer jeans? Of course not.

If you define yourself by what you have, you’ll never know happiness. Materially speaking, you were born with nothing and you’ll die with nothing.

I’ve never seen an armored truck at a funeral, have you?

I recently had the honor of being a guest on a radio show out of the Washington, DC area. What a treat this was! Amazing host and co-hosts. The shows’s content is described as: “Writer and executive producer Robert Wesley Branch anchors this weekly conversation, covering news and politics, entertainment and lifestyle topics.”

The show topic was The Metaphysics of Money. The question arose, naturally, of how to manifest more money into your life. The answer given is quite the opposite of what you might be used to hearing.

Remember to first be absolutely clear on what it is you are bringing into our life. And then look at what you can get rid of (subtract) before you draw something new into your experience. Why?

If we’re unhappy with what we already have, we’ll very likely be unhappy with anything new that shows up. If you’re already happy with what you have you won’t go chasing what you think you need. This is truly life’s greatest paradox and one of life’s toughest lessons.

Robert Wesley Branch is a talented radio host and excellent interviewer, among other things. I recommend you visit his website and absorb the essence of his message. Visit his YouTube page. His videos are unique, personal, and bring a spiritual thread to his message that is intimate and speaks clearly to the viewer.

time money

Start thinking about how much time you spend at work. Have you ever missed an important life event because of work? Has a funeral you couldn’t attend or a milestone in a child’s life come and gone because you were stuck at work? How did it make you feel?

What if you slowly started to choose to work less and have more time for yourself and family? It can be done. One way to start is by getting rid of debt first so you’ll have the option of working less hours. Hmmm……

“People feel dissatisfied, depressed, and unhappy because they try to buy their identify thru consumerism.” – Tammy Strobel author of Smalltopia: A Practical Guide to Working for Yourself

“When you choose time over money and people over stuff, happiness awaits.” Courtney Carver author of Simple Ways to Be More with Less

fix

You hear a lot about The Federal Reserve “stimulating” the economy in hopes of fixing it. The boys over at theminimalists.com remind us you can’t fix the problem with more of the problem.

We can, however, fix the way we think about how we spend money and consume and live and act and behave. Too many years of overindulgence have caught up with us. Problem is we don’t want to come off the drugs called cheap credit and hyper consumerism.

I know, I know, it’s tough to swallow. The system tells you it’s patriotic to spend and you’re un-American if you don’t. Financially secure or patriotic, which is more important?

The bottom line is this. The only way we’re going to turn this thing around and keep it turned around is one person at a time. We can’t write more laws and pile them on top of more laws and expect people to change their behavior.

Personal responsibility is where it’s at.

Action:
I challenge you to look at your economy and ask where can I live with less? How about cable TV with 200 channels and you only watch 3? How about those 3 packs of cigarettes a day? How about that trip to the mall twice a month to buy the latest fashion trend? How about that bass boat you never use but bought because your next door neighbor has one? Did you finance that, by the way? Ouch!

This idea called minimalism is calling me to a higher level of awareness. It’s challenging me to re-think what it means to be prosperous. Watch the video, take the challenge, live with less in just one area of your life.

Are you dreaming of working for yourself? If so, how much money does it take to live? What if you lived with less stuff to maintain? I’m being challenged in my own life to live with less, subtract first. Then I can truly begin to add to my life in a totally different way.
