401 contributions. It’s never too late to start.

3 years on job, $7,500 in 401k no contribution from me. 3% contribution from me at next enrollment. Auto deduct from check.

IRA rollover:
Quit job, another employer, another 401k company. They make money off fees and investing your money.

You contribute pre-tax dollars to the account.
When you withdraw at retirement you get taxed.

Close:
Earlier you start, the more it grows.
Get used to the deduction and you won’t miss it.
Talk to your 401k rep. Charts on how much can expect to have at quitting time. Don’t just guess.

How to protect your financial privacy.

Let’s start at home:
Shredders –
$45. Cross Cut not strip cut. Don’t let it pile up. What to shred? Bank statements, documents with acct #’s, SSN, picture ID. Once trash is on the curb, it’s open game.

Out in the world:
At The Bank –
Don’t write acct # on piece of paper and then throw it in the trash. Dumpster divers. People look over your shoulder. Cameras on phones. If you speak your SSN, lower your voice. Don’t lay any docs down and walk away even for a second. Direct deposit, can still get to know your local bank.

Personal story:
I’ve had my Visa Debit card # stolen at least once or twice in 18 yrs. Card Security Services called to verify transaction and I canx the card. $350 charge in CA.

Financial Privacy is your responsibility. Not paranoid, just increased level of awareness. Use a PO Box for physical mail.

Know Who You Owe – 242 DSR

Today I discuss a real estate closing fiasco of an old friend and how you can avoid it.

Late 2016 sold house, moved back to CA.

Closing attorney ordered payoff 1st but not 2nd mtg. Closing attorney said “2nd mtg was included in the first mtg payoff.”

Months later, friend got notice from HUD – owe $11k. Consulted an attorney. Now making mo. pmt $200 to 300 to HUD.

Their buyers attorney contacted them. We payoff 2nd, you borrower $9k from us, do you have any collateral?

Buyer is trying to either refinance or sell and can’t. Doesn’t have clear title. Title clearly shows 1st and 2nd mtg. Seller’s attorney screwed up big time.

Seller pocketed enough to pay the $11k at closing but wasn’t aware of it. Ultimately responsible.

Lesson?
Know who you owe. Read CD, look at who is being paid off. If you write two mo. mtg pmt checks, both lenders should be in the payoff section.

Credit score hurt if HUD reports to credit bureaus.

US Gov’t knowingly allows large banks to launder drug cartel & terrorist money.
US 2nd in illicit money flows, 2nd only to Switzerland (Wall Street on Parade article).
illict money flows – tax free haven for the rich, shell corporations, etc.

Overview –
WSJ Article: “A 2016 congressional report into the settlement found that Justice Department
officials overruled internal recommendations to pursue a criminal prosecution, in part to avoid
disrupting the global financial system. The DOJ at the time of the report said it was committed
to holding individuals and corporations responsible for their conduct.”

US gov’t did not pursue criminal prosection. Why? In part, to avoid disrupting the global financial system.
