ignorant

This episode is inspired by the stand up comedy bit “What” by
Bo Burnham.

Let’s take a trip in the theatre of your mind. A trip to an alternate reality where you stop learning and start earning. But there’s a catch. Once you start earning, you never get to learn anything else ever again.

Questions:
– What if you got paid to be ignorant?
– If your bank account was based on how many books you read a year (and I don’t mean fiction), would you have some zeros or a comma maybe?
– Would you stop learning just to get a check?
– Would it be enough for you to stay ignorant of who you really are, what you’re really capable of if you got paid to not know?
– What if instead of paying schools to put information into your head, you got paid to never put information into your head?
– What if being an avid reader, searcher, & learner meant you stayed financially poor the rest of your life? You’d always have food, clothing, shelter, medicine but you’d never have more money than what you have today.
– Would you want to get paid to stay ignorant?

Society tells you the more you learn (about it’s world) the more you earn (it’s money).

-What if the less you learn (about societies world) the more you earn? Earn in awareness. Earn in self discovery. Earn in deeper inner standing of your true self.
– What if less (of the world) is more (of you)?

Illusion is what we put in the gas tank of life. The spark that ignites it is our pursuit of truth. We are then propelled forward on our journey. Soul is an amazing way of being isn’t it? – Greg Whitaker (inspired by Robert Wesley Branch)

Let’s break it down:

1) Illusion is what we put in the gas tank of life. Without this fuel, you don’t move to the next level in your journey. As we see each illusion for what it is, we can then end our suffering over that situation and free up our attention/intention to move to the next illusion.

2) The spark that ignites it (illusion) is our pursuit of truth. We must burn up the illusion. As we do this, we move closer to the center of who we really are.

3) We are then propelled forward on our journey. No gasoline, no movement.

4) Soul is an amazing way of being isn’t it?

Coming up:
Debt Shepherd will be a featured guest in online radio – BlogTalkRadio.com Saturday 01/04 10 a.m. CST, 11 am EST, 8 am PST. – Butterfly Evolution – What if You Were Debt Free? I’ll remind you again on next week’s podcast.

Today’s podcast is based on an idea from author Jonar Nader – “How to Lose Friends and Infuriate People.” I read that book in 2000.

Questions to ponder:

– What if you got paid a % of the company profits each month based on your contribution? No company profit, no paycheck.
– What would your work place look like, feel like, act like?
– What could you bitch about?
– How would you show up?

Hourly -vs- commission. Commission -vs- profit based pay.

142 DSR – Maggie’s Story

December 19, 2013 — 1 Comment

tell_your_story_2

We recently heard from a listener Maggie who had this, among other things, to say about her financial mindset:

“For me, I have no debt. I paid it off several years ago after a job loss meant that I was in danger of not making the payment on my mortgage. I thought I’d been smart in getting only 1/3 the house the bank said I could afford…but it still meant that my house was tied to my income….If I lose this job, I can live for over 10 years with what I have in the bank.”

We’d love to hear your story. Click the “Your Story” link at the top of this page and tell us about you.

We recently got an email from a listener Greg Garcia:

“Hi, Greg, I’ve been listening to your podcast for about the past year, And the teachings you have taught me have awakened me. I discovered you when i was getting into debt, I  had accumulated about 12k by the age of 22, (24 now) with about 4 years of establish credit. And then I took a hard look at things I had bought, amounting to clothes, eating out, and buying items that did not better me.

Long story short I realized I needed change. I started researching and learning how to take care of myself financially and started making moves. As of right now my revolving balance is at 500 hundred dollars. After paying my debt off I started to question my actions, my motives, my decision making, and just overall how I think.”

Recent material I’ve consumed:
Video – Russell Brand: Messiah Complex
Book – The Deep Self: Consciousness Exploration in The Isolation Tank by John Lilly.

experience

Thanks to John from New York for the recent voicemail about the ridiculous shopping going on during Black Friday.

Are you living through other people? Do you read autobiographies of famous dead folks and tell yourself how awesome they were?
When are you going to start writing your own chapters? Will you leave your mark in the sands of time?

The only experience I’m interested in having is my own. It’s the only one you should be excited about too. Read all the books you want about what it’s like to live, do, be, have, become. Until you’ve been there, done that, been that, you’re empty of it.
